California Residents who apply for financial aid and take a minimum of 6 credits can attend Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College for free in the Spring 2024 semester.

Merritt Faculty Attends CCCAOE Conference

The California Community College Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE) is a state-wide, membership-driven organization of career educators, faculty, staff, and administrators, with a focus on shaping career education throughout California. A few weeks ago, they held their Annual Fall Conference down in Palm Springs and Merritt sent a team of faculty leaders and administrators to attend. Our very own VPAS Marie Amboy serves on the Board for CCCAOE as the Regional Vice President representing the SF/Bay region.

Merritt College Makes Presentation at (CAPED) Conference

Earlier this month, Frances Moy—our Student Accessibility Services Coordinator—had the opportunity to present at the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED) state-wide annual conference. In collaboration with her Laney College colleague Nate Failing, their presentation focused on a new partnership between the Clausen House, Oakland Unified School District’s Young Adult Program, and the Merritt and Laney SAS programs.

With the support of the Aspira Project/HSI Title V Grant, Merritt College will be sending five individuals to the upcoming Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) Annual Conference. The conference will take place from October 28th through October 30th, and will be held in Chicago, Illinois.

Merritt Announces Rising Scholars Grant

Merritt College was awarded a grant recently from the Rising Scholars network for the purpose of providing instruction and wrap-around services for incarcerated youth. This grant will provide us with $1.5 million over five years, and enable the College to implement in-person, on-site assistance with enrollment, student education planning, counseling, tutoring, exit planning, and instruction.

Merritt Announces New Director of Hispanic Serving Institutions Program

Mr. Jorge Murillo has been appointed as Merritt College’s new Director of Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program. Working alongside faculty, classified professional staff members, and administrators, Mr. Murillo will take the lead on building and implementing the College’s Aspira Project, which will be funded by a five-year, $2.9M grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Title V Program.
