On April 16, 2021, Dr. Jannett Jackson started in her new role as Interim Chancellor of the Peralta Community College District. Dr. Jackson is an experienced CEO having served as the esteemed Chancellor of the Chabot-Los Positas Community College District from 2013 to 2018 when she retired, and most recently coming out of retirement to serve as Interim President of Skyline Community College in San Bruno in 2019-2020. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Interim Chancellor contract for Dr. Jackson at their April 13, 2021 meeting.
At an online reception on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, the Peralta Community College District celebrated the awarding of tenure to six dedicated educators. The event, hosted by Dr. Siri Brown (Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs & Student Success), began with welcoming statements by Dr. Cindi Napoli-Abella Reiss (President of the Board of Trustees), Dr. Carla Walter (Interim Chancellor), Dr. Donald Moore (President of the District Academic Senate), and Dr. Jennifer Shanoski (President of the Peralta Federation of Teachers). Educators from peer institutions across the Western Association of Schools and Colleges conducted virtual site visits of the Peralta Community College District and the four colleges last week, March 1-4. These peer reviews were conducted on behalf of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) and were part of an accreditation process that included the Special Reports we submitted last November and the Institutional Self Evaluation Reports (ISERs) submitted in December 2020. The visits went well. We’re writing to share with you some preliminary good news that we received during the accreditation site visits last week.

On Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at their regular governance meeting, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Carla Stalling Walter to serve as the District’s Interim Chancellor effective October 1, 2020 and continuing through February 2021 or until a permanent chancellor is hired. The Board approved the contract including an annualized salary of $314,943. Interim Chancellor Walter previously served as the District’s Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration and started serving as Acting Chancellor for the District this past July. She brings more than 20 years of successful experience in financial administration and in higher education, including leadership posts at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District and State Center Community College District.
Oakland, CA -- The Peralta Community College District (PCCD) Board of Trustees held a special meeting on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, and today is announcing their decision to begin contract negotiations with Dr. Carla Walter to become Interim Chancellor. The goal will be to place the contract for public review and approval at their regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2020.
