OAKLAND, CA – On Friday, May 9, 2025, the Peralta Community College District hosted its second annual district-wide Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Graduation Celebration, bringing together students, families, faculty, and staff from Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College to honor the achievements of the graduating class of 2025.
On Friday, February 28, 2025, the Peralta Community College District headquarters buzzed with festive energy as we celebrated the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Snake. The event, filled with cultural richness and community spirit, brought together faculty, classified professionals, students, and district leadership for an afternoon of celebration and learning.

The Peralta Community College District is a proud supporter of AANAPISI Week (September 23-September 29, 2024). AANAPISI stands for Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions, which include Laney College and Berkeley City College. This week celebrates the AANAPISI designation, which was established by Congress on September 27, 2007, to improve the availability and quality of postsecondary education programs to support low-income, first-generation Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students.
On May 3, Peralta's first graduation event for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders was held at Merritt College. The student center was packed with graduating students, and performances included a dragon dance, drums, and traditional music from the Au Co Vietnamese Cultural Center’s Su Viet Ensemble.
