OAKLAND, Calif., June 26, 2024 – At their regular meeting last night, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Greg Nelson as Deputy Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective July 1, 2024.
Dear Peralta Community,
As I shared back in April, we’ve initiated a broader exploration into strategies and options that will support our long-term strategic vision for public safety. Given prominent concerns around safety and security in my districtwide listening sessions and the foundational leadership of the Holistic Safety and Wellness Committee, we are poised to articulate a transformative and holistic plan for safety and security that centers our District’s mission and vision, and the Board’s June 2021 Resolution Renewing Support for the Holistic Safety and Wellness of District Students.
The Peralta Community College District was well-represented at the Classified Leadership Institute 2024 Conference in Riverside from June 5th - 7th.
On Thursday, May 30th, the office of the Chancellor hosted a District Service Center Employee Appreciation event in the Atrium. Chancellor Tammeil Gilkerson had the opportunity to recognize employees reaching significant milestones in their careers with the Peralta Community College District by presenting certificates for five, ten, fifteen years of service or more, culminating with 30 years of service awards going to Shawnee Martinez and Carmen Fairley.

The Peralta Colleges are home to many extraordinary individuals who consistently exceed expectations in their service to students, employees, and the community. The whimsically named "Flying Pig Awards" were established to celebrate such achievements – those that defy expectations and embody the true spirit of Peralta.
On April 25th, Chancellor Tammeil Gilkerson hosted a workshop attended by over 50 stakeholders across the district involved in the contract process, including classified professionals, faculty, administrators, and outside legal counsel.
