On April 26, Laney College held a ceremony to rename their baseball diamond and bullpen after two long-time coaches, both of whom are in the California Community Colleges Athletics AssociationHall of Fame. The diamond was named for former head coach Tom Pearse, while the bullpen was named after assistant coach John Martinez.
Laney College will be represented at the CCCAA Track & Field State Championship for the third consecutive year, as sophomore throwers Jack Beltran, Jada Joshua, and Tupu Ve’e all advance.
Laney College hosted the 2024 Coast Conference Track & Field Championship this past Saturday, competing for a chance to advance to the Northern California Championships on May 3rd & 4th. The Eagles had several impressive performances, walking away with medals in several events.
By the end of this season, the Laney College Women's Basketball Team was ranked one of the top teams in the state, earned a share of their conference championship, and a trip to the state championship quarter-finals, also known as the "Elite Eight." This is all the more incredible when one considers the team earned these accolades with only six players.
At this weekend's Bay Valley Conference coach's meetings, Laney Women's Basketball was acknowledged as the Conference Co-Champions. This was the 3rd straight year that the women's basketball team has won the BVC Championship. Their overall Bay Valley Conference record in 3 years is an impressive 43-1!
The Laney College Women’s Track & Field program is preparing for another great year following back-to-back appearances at the CCCAA State Track & Field Meet. Returning this year are Sophomore Throwers Jada Joshua, Jack Beltran, and Tupu Ve’e. Ve’e finished 7th in the state in shot put last season, hoping to improve on previous marks and continue to work towards the school record in her event.
Freshman Cross Country runner Emily Wonsang placed 10th for individuals and 32nd overall at the NorCal Championship Meet, advancing her to the CCCAA State Championship Meet on November 18th in Fresno, CA. Wonsang is the first Laney College Cross Country runner to advance to the State Meet in the program’s history, finishing with a time of 21:06 at Hidden Valley Park in Martinez, CA.

Our season has come to an end with 2 more state champions this past Saturday at Modesto Junior College. Isela Ochoa won in the 400 hurdles making that 2 for 2 in 2022 and 2023 and Kwaku Owusu won in the 400m for his first state championship.
