OAKLAND, Calif., April 7, 2025 – The Peralta Community College District (PCCD) announced the successful sale of $362.7 million in bonds on March 26, 2025, marking a significant financial milestone for the District.

On April 8-9, 2025, Peralta Community College District students will vote for student government representatives and on Proposition A, a referendum to determine the EasyPass program’s future. If approved, it would renew access to unlimited AC Transit bus service—local and Transbay—for all Peralta Community College District students via their EasyPass card.

The Peralta Community College District is looking for volunteers to join our Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee. This is a very important committee, responsible for reviewing PCCD bond spending to make sure it complies with the bond language and reporting back to the public via an annual report. Citizens who previously served on this committee have gone on to become elected officials including Trustees and City Councilors.

The Peralta Citizen student reporters recently returned from the National Association of Collegiate Presses (NACP) and the Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) joint conference in Long Beach, achieving a remarkable collection of awards. At the March 8, 2025 Board of Trustees meeting, Peralta Community College District Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson highlighted the students' exceptional performance, noting it as "one of their most successful showings to date."

The Peralta Community College District isn't just a hub of academic excellence; it's a breeding ground for influential leaders who are shaping the landscape of higher education across California. From administrators to faculty and classified professionals, Peralta's dedicated individuals are making significant contributions to statewide organizations and initiatives.

As Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson pointed out at the March 8th Board of Trustees meeting, the Peralta Colleges have recently garnered significant media attention across various platforms. From local news to national outlets, our students, faculty, and programs were celebrated, reaching millions of viewers and readers.

The Peralta Community College District (PCCD) held a reception on March 11, 2025, to honor 13 faculty members who were approved for tenure later that night by the Board of Trustees. Their tenured status takes effect with the 2025-26 academic year.

Laney College's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department hosted an inspiring "Women Entrepreneurs in Technical Sectors" Panel Discussion, celebrating the resilience, innovation, and success of women in traditionally male-dominated fields. The event, facilitated by Yarina Cortel from the City of Oakland's Economic Development department, brought together a diverse panel of accomplished women who shared their journeys, challenges, and triumphs.

The Peralta Colleges are home to many extraordinary individuals who consistently exceed expectations in their service to students, employees, and the community. In her January 2024 Flex Day speech, Peralta Community College District Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson introduced the whimsically named "Flying Pig Awards" to celebrate such achievements – those that defy expectations and embody the true spirit of Peralta.
