Merritt College Celebrates Culture and Community at First World Cup Festival

On Cinco de Mayo, Merritt College Student Clubs hosted their first World Cup Festival in the Student Lounge (R-110). Over 160 students, staff, faculty, and community members attended the two-hour celebration. Guests enjoyed pupusas, a traditional Salvadoran dish, pasteles, aguas frescas, and pineapple soft-serve ice cream.

Laney Faculty Member Contributes to Pulitzer Prize–Winning Investigation

Laney College congratulates Journalism faculty member Dan Kopf on his role in a Pulitzer Prize–winning investigation announced as part of the 2026 Pulitzer Prizes. Kopf, who serves as Data Editor at the San Francisco Chronicle, contributed data editing to “Burned,” an in-depth investigative report examining a flawed insurance algorithm that impacted Los Angeles wildfire survivors.

New Affordable Senior Housing Development Advances Near Laney College

On March 26, the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) held a "topping off" ceremony to celebrate progress on the new senior housing complex that is being built across the street from the Laney Campus. The new building will have 97 units of affordable senior housing and commercial space on the lower level.

Laney College Women’s Basketball closed out its final home game on February 17 with a Sophomore Night celebration honoring nine student-athletes who will transfer to continue their academic and athletic careers. The event included a campus pre-game tailgate hosted by ASLC and the President’s Office, bringing together students, employees, and fans in support of the team.
