College of Alameda Gala Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The upbeat online celebration of CoA’s 50th Anniversary took place on December 1, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. It opened with a cheerful greeting from the College’s Cougar mascot, thanks to Joshua Sanders, Student Athlete/Men’s Basketball team member, who donned the costume for the occasion. CoA President Dr. Nathaniel Jones III, gave the official welcome. Over 170 students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members attended he gala, which featured heartwarming student testimonials and special guest presentations by Representative Barbara Lee, Assemblymember Rob Bonta, Alameda Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, Interim PCCD Chancellor Dr. Carla Walter, PCCD Trustee Bill Withrow, and Chief Executive Officer of Alameda Alliance for Health Scott Coffin, among others.

The Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) recognizes excellence in Community College Journalism.  Founded in 1955, JACC is a nonprofit on the cutting edge of journalism education, bridging the gaps between students, educators and publications by providing networking and educational events aimed at inspiring members at each stage of their journalism career. This year’s conference combined NorCal and SoCal in an all-new virtual format on November 6-8.  During the conference, awards were announced.  We are proud to share that students writing for The Peralta Citizen received several awards.

Peralta CCD Unveils New Center for Liberal Arts at College of Alameda

ALAMEDA, CA – Today, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) unveiled its latest accomplishment under an ambitious, multimillion-dollar capital improvement plan: completion of the New Center for Liberal Arts (Building H) at the College of Alameda. The nearly 54,000 square foot, building offers specialized facilities for programming in the divisions of Liberal Studies and Language Arts, and Career and Workforce Education, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math with classroom space in a variety of academic disciplines. This success was preceded by a successful bond refinance earlier this year that saved taxpayers $5 million and earned the District a higher credit rating from Moody’s.
