Women’s Career Panel at BCC

On Thursday, March 7, the Berkeley City College Women’s Leadership Club, STEM club, and Sustainable Business Club collaborated to present its second Women’s Career Panel. The panel featured local female professionals Jonelle Basso of the Department of Education Genome Institute at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, professor and consultant Leslie Forman, BART Chief Communication Officer Alicia Trost, Art Program Manager Jennifer Easton, and research associate and BCC alum, Molly Fischer.

The Laney Photography Dual Enrollment program that partners with the Fremont High Media Academy was recognized as a “Distinguished California Partnership Academy” by the California Department of Education.

By the end of this season, the Laney College Women's Basketball Team was ranked one of the top teams in the state, earned a share of their conference championship, and a trip to the state championship quarter-finals, also known as the "Elite Eight." This is all the more incredible when one considers the team earned these accolades with only six players.

The Peralta Community College District (PCCD) held a reception on March 12, 2024, to honor 15 faculty members across all four colleges within the district: Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College; who were approved for tenure later that night by the Board of Trustees. Their tenured status takes effect with the 2024-25 academic year.

Peralta Community College District kicked off the Lunar New Year with a festive celebration that showcased the rich traditions of Asian cultures. The event, held on Friday, March 1, 2024, was a joyous gathering filled with greetings, informative presentations, and a spirit of community.

On February 28^th, Peralta Community College District (PCCD) Student Trustees Natasha Masand and Naomi Vasquez hosted the first of what we hope will be ongoing gatherings of student leaders from across the district. The meeting, held at the Chancellor’s conference room, was attended by more than 16 leaders representing the Associated Students organizations across the Peralta Colleges.

The 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. We encourage all Peralta Community College Students to fill out the FAFSA. 

The FAFSA Form qualifies students for most types of financial aid available including the California College Promise Grant (aka Board of Governors Fee Waiver), Federal Pell Grant, and California State Grant.

Chancellor Gilkerson wanted to personally convey the direction she’s taking with district organizational structure and recorded a brief (3 minutes 44 seconds) update video for the Peralta Community.

If you haven’t visited the June Steingart Art Gallery at Laney College recently, go now! The current exhibit, “Spring 2024 Art Department Faculty Show” features dozens of artworks created by Laney College faculty members. The show ends after March 7th so do not delay.
