The Peralta Community College District held its Spring 2024 "Flex Day" for Professional Development on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Laney College and featured two new chancellors, Peralta's Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson and California Community Colleges Chancellor Dr. Sonya Christian.
Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson, newly-appointed Chancellor of the Peralta Community College District, spent her first full week on the job visiting the campuses of Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College. Each college created a welcoming environment for the Chancellor and her staff, and the hope and enthusiasm for the future were palpable in every conversation.
OAKLAND, Calif., November 15, 2023 – At their regular meeting last night, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) Board of Trustees unanimously approved the contract for Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson as the next permanent Chancellor of the district, with the initial term beginning January 4, 2024 and extending to June 30, 2027.
OAKLAND, Calif., October 31, 2023 – This morning, following closed session deliberations, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) Board of Trustees announced Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson as their choice to be the next permanent Chancellor of the district, beginning in January 2024, pending contract negotiation and approval.
Due to the continuing Alameda County directive to shelter in place, the Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees met via Zoom on June 23, 2020. This meeting was epic. Clocking in at 5 hours and 40 minutes or so, the meeting included a landmark vote on the District's relationship with Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) which helped draw 100 speakers for the public comment section of the meeting. Additionally, this meeting was the last for Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson, Laney College President, and Dr. Timothy Karas, College of Alameda President. On June 4, 2020, the Peralta Community College District hosted a virtual Town Hall webinar. The focus was addressing the institutional racism pervasive in our society that contributed to the recent murder of Mr. George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police. Peralta leaders posted our statement regarding the killing of Mr. Floyd here. The goal of this Town Hall was to help raise the racial literacy and critical consciousness of the community while providing a safe space to reflect and share resources.
