COA Celebrates Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month with Flavorful Cultural Event

COA celebrated Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage (APIDA) Month with the “Oodles of Noodles” event on May 1, 2024. The APIDA Heritage Month Planning Committee was delighted with the fantastic turnout. It was especially heartwarming to learn that for some students, faculty, and staff, it was their first time experiencing a vermicelli bowl and boba drink. This was one of a series of three events held at the College in early May celebrating APIDA Heritage Month.

Berkeley City College Class of 2024 Celebrates Ambition at Commencement

On Wednesday, May 22, Berkeley City College celebrated the Class of 2024 at its Commencement Ceremony at Zellerbach Hall on UC Berkeley’s Campus. Berkeley City College conferred 1,109 awards including AA’s, AS’s, AD-T, and Certificates of Achievement, Competency, Completion, and Proficiency to 612 graduates.

As we close this graduation season of celebration for our students and colleges, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all of you who make the Peralta Colleges a beacon of hope and positive transformation for the communities, families, and individuals we serve.  
 
With an eye on continuously strengthening our institutions to be ever-better community stewards, I am excited to share that Melanie Dixon will join the College of Alameda as President, beginning July 1, pending formal ratification of her contract by the Board of Trustees in June.

Peralta's First-Ever District-Wide AAPI Graduation

On May 3, Peralta's first graduation event for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders was held at Merritt College. The student center was packed with graduating students, and performances included a dragon dance, drums, and traditional music from the Au Co Vietnamese Cultural Center’s Su Viet Ensemble.
