CoA Distance Education Team Tackles Fake Students Problem
As if teaching online during a pandemic wasn't difficult enough, 2021 brings California Community Colleges a new challenge: fraudulent enrollments and"fake" students. Authorities believe more than 60,000 fake applications for financial aid were submitted statewide, as reported by the Los Angeles Times, the Sacramento Bee, and the New York Times.

Even while CoA’s Career and Employment Center campus location has been closed these past months during the pandemic, Career Center staff have made extraordinary efforts to continue to support clients by providing important resources and services to many in our community who were affected by the pandemic.
The Sky Is the Limit: CoA’s Aviation Maintenance Technology Program
CoA’s Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) Program serves students seeking employment as trained technicians in the aviation industry. The program operates under the approval of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and is located in a facility at 970 Harbor Bay Parkway, in Alameda, adjacent to the Oakland International Airport. Facilities include a sheet metal shop, an engine shop, welding equipment, and aircraft system trainers.

Friday, May 28, 2021 is Graduation Day across the Peralta Community College District. Congratulations to all the brilliant, tenacious, dedicated students who are 2021 Graduates of Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College. You did it!
Two College of Alameda Automotive Technology (Atech) students, Yumeus (Missy) Taylor and Jorge Sandoval, were awarded Ozzie Day Scholarships this spring. As you can see from the photos below, both of them maintained social distancing protocols when they got their checks! All in-person Atech labs this semester have been running with full Covid protocols.
