On May 13, Chancellor Tammeil Gilkerson served as a judge on a panel of a “Shark Tank"-style business competition called “DreamLaunch.” Students from across the district participated by presenting innovative business ideas, which were refined through a series of workshops leading to a final presentation.

On Tuesday, April 23, Berkeley City College honored its past with a beautiful, vibrant block party, complete with good food, dancing, and even horseback riding! Berkeley City College programs and resources were on full display as we tabled with intention, bringing greater awareness to the tremendous value that we offer our community.

On Thursday, March 28th, Peralta’s first-ever Professional Development Day held exclusively for Classified Professionals was hosted by College of Alameda. The day included speeches from the Presidents, raffles for gifts, a powerful keynote on the importance of self-care for those who are responsible for helping others by Dr. Dawn Moultrie, and workshops on retirement planning with CalPERS and Understanding Boundaries to protect students and employees by ASCIP, Peralta's insurance provider. Attendees also enjoyed delicious tacos and dancing, too!

The Peralta Colleges were well-represented in the March 2024 issue of "LIFT your Voice”, a publication of the Leadership Institute for Tomorrow at Cal State Fullerton, which aims to impact higher-education systems and communities by developing a new generation of diverse, confident, and competent leaders with the change agency to reconstruct community colleges, universities, and organizations into just, equitable, and inclusive institutions free of racism.

BERKELEY, Calif., April 24, 2024 – Celebration hit Center Street in Berkeley the afternoon of Tuesday, April 23, as the community and Berkeley City College (BCC), the Peralta Community College District, and Peralta’s Bond Program, “Build Peralta” celebrated 50 years of BCC history and the groundbreaking of a new building at 2118 Milvia Street that symbolized the future of the campus.

Women’s Career Panel at BCC
On Thursday, March 7, the Berkeley City College Women’s Leadership Club, STEM club, and Sustainable Business Club collaborated to present its second Women’s Career Panel. The panel featured local female professionals Jonelle Basso of the Department of Education Genome Institute at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, professor and consultant Leslie Forman, BART Chief Communication Officer Alicia Trost, Art Program Manager Jennifer Easton, and research associate and BCC alum, Molly Fischer.

The 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. We encourage all Peralta Community College Students to fill out the FAFSA.
The FAFSA Form qualifies students for most types of financial aid available including the California College Promise Grant (aka Board of Governors Fee Waiver), Federal Pell Grant, and California State Grant.
