We have some important information to share regarding parking, declaring a major, Welcome Week activities, and an internship opportunity.
Parking
Great news – free parking! There will not be a charge for parking in Peralta-owned lots at College of Alameda, Laney College, Merritt College, or the District Service Center. At Berkeley City College, there is no Peralta-owned lot available (there are pay lots next door and across the street).
No Parking Permits: For the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters, we will not be issuing parking permits or stickers. The Department of Public Safety is working on a comprehensive parking compliance system to enhance safety, improve the parking experience, and ensure accountability. We anticipate having this solution in place by Summer or Fall 2025. Visit the Department of Campus Public Safety for more information at https://www.peralta.edu/campus-public-safety.
Changing a Major
Change of Major Self-Service: Starting on Monday, August 19, 2024, you will have the ability to update your major via PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Student Self-Service. Instructions on how to update your major can be found here. Access Campus Solutions via the Peralta Student Portal here.
Students are allowed to change their major the first two weeks of the semester in the Fall and Spring terms, and the first week of the Summer term. This self-service will not be available after Labor Day, September 2nd, 2024. You can still change your major with the assistance of a counselor.
Welcome Week
Each of the colleges has Welcome Week activities going on all week. You’ll get a lot of information and be able to meet lots of awesome people too when you attend in person. Please check the college websites for details:
Free T-Shirts
The Peralta Colleges Marketing team will be giving away free t-shirts and hoodies (while supplies last) to students who sign our model release form and allow us to take pictures and video of you wearing the swag. We want to use these photos for our websites, publications, advertising, and social media. We’ll be at the colleges during Welcome Week giving out the swag and taking photos & videos.
We’ll be at Merritt on Monday morning, College of Alameda midday Tuesday, Berkeley City College midday on Wednesday, and Laney College in the afternoon on Thursday. Hope to see you on campus!
Paid Internship Opportunity
Finally, we’re sharing a call for applications for a paid internship with the City of Oakland. The internship is for 15-20 hours a week and pays from $20 to $38 per hour depending upon education and experience. More information and instructions on how to apply can be found here. Applications are due by August 27th, so don’t delay.
