Berkeley, Calif., August 9, 2022 – Berkeley City College has announced the Fall is Free at BCC campaign to support student access and success to higher education for the Fall 2022 semester. Classes start August 22nd.
The Merritt College Natural History and Sustainability (NHS) Program is an interdisciplinary program that offers career, transfer-driven coursework and three Certificates of Achievement in Natural History and Resources, Conservation and Resource Management, and Urban Agroecology.
Capping off a successful Spring 2022 semester, Laney College held its 2022 graduation in both in-person and virtual formats.
Merritt College honored its recent graduates with a hybrid ceremony with both an in-person celebration and an online event.
Pamela Samuels, a student at Merritt College in Oakland is one of 15 Phi Theta Kappa members selected as a 2022 Guistwhite Scholar and will receive a $5,000 scholarship for baccalaureate studies.

March 13th - 19th is National Sunshine Week, which has been celebrated every March since 2005, thanks to the hard work of the American Society of News Editors. Participants include print, broadcast, and online news media, civic groups, non-profits, schools, and libraries. The activities enlighten the public about their right to government information and strengthen their communities.

Sohail Ali was awarded the Ozzie Day Scholarship today for Fall, 2021. Sohail has been attending the College of Alameda for four years, and will complete his Associate of Science degree in Automotive Technology next semester. He says that he’s majoring in Automotive Technology because he “loves to fix things.” Sohail is currently attending college full-time, while--at the same time--working part-time at an independent repair shop in San Francisco. iH His goal is to become a certified Master tech, specializing in Engine Performance.
Congratulations to Berkeley City College student Davon Crawford, the winner of the 2021 CalWORKs award! Davon is a mother of four children and is studying to become a nurse. Her inspirational story and strong application helped her to win the award at a statewide level on February 25th. In March of 2021, Davon was invited by the CalWORKs Associate Board to perform as the keynote speaker on the student panel.
