Laney College's CalWORKs Program Takes its Case to Sacramento
Four years ago, thanks to the generous support from Blue Shield of California, the CalWORKs Association embarked on a journey to enhance the support and empowerment of our CalWORKs students.
On April 26, Laney College held a ceremony to rename their baseball diamond and bullpen after two long-time coaches, both of whom are in the California Community Colleges Athletics AssociationHall of Fame. The diamond was named for former head coach Tom Pearse, while the bullpen was named after assistant coach John Martinez.
Laney Custodial Staff Earns Inaugural Award
On April 26, 2024, Laney College Custodial staff were recognized with the first “Above and Beyond” Award at the College’s Employee Appreciation event. While individuals are recognized each year with the “We Rise” employee awards, this new distinction will now recognize one entire unit or office at the College that teams up to support students and the campus community at a level of excellence.
On Wednesday, April 10-12, the annual Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO) Conference was held in Santa Cruz. CCPRO is focused on professional development and the sharing of best practices among the California Community Colleges' marketing and communications teams across the state.
On Thursday, March 28th, Peralta’s first-ever Professional Development Day held exclusively for Classified Professionals was hosted by College of Alameda. The day included speeches from the Presidents, raffles for gifts, a powerful keynote on the importance of self-care for those who are responsible for helping others by Dr. Dawn Moultrie, and workshops on retirement planning with CalPERS and Understanding Boundaries to protect students and employees by ASCIP, Peralta's insurance provider. Attendees also enjoyed delicious tacos and dancing, too!
Peralta Authors Featured in CSU Fullerton’s "LIFT Your Voice" Spring 2024 Issue
The Peralta Colleges were well-represented in the March 2024 issue of "LIFT your Voice”, a publication of the Leadership Institute for Tomorrow at Cal State Fullerton, which aims to impact higher-education systems and communities by developing a new generation of diverse, confident, and competent leaders with the change agency to reconstruct community colleges, universities, and organizations into just, equitable, and inclusive institutions free of racism.
The Laney College photography dual enrollment program, which partners with Fremont High Media Academy, was recognized as a distinguished California partnership academy by the California Department of Education.
Laney College will be represented at the CCCAA Track & Field State Championship for the third consecutive year, as sophomore throwers Jack Beltran, Jada Joshua, and Tupu Ve’e all advance.
Laney, Merritt College Remembers Legacy of Former Longtime Colleague, President
The greater Peralta community joins Mrs. Juliet Crutchfield in mourning and celebrating the passing of her husband Earnest Crutchfield, former Merritt College Counselor and longtime President of Laney College.
Laney College hosted the 2024 Coast Conference Track & Field Championship this past Saturday, competing for a chance to advance to the Northern California Championships on May 3rd & 4th. The Eagles had several impressive performances, walking away with medals in several events.
