Strategic Scheduling Yields Strong Enrollment and Increased Productivity at Merritt College

With the Fall 2025 semester fully underway, I am pleased to share that Merritt College is in a very strong position as it pertains to our enrollment picture this term. Compared to this same time last year, we are currently offering 39 fewer sections and utilizing 13 fewer FTEF. And yet, we have only 88 fewer students attending the college (which resulted in an increase in productivity from 13.92 to 15.47).

Back to Fall at Laney College: A Strong Start for 2025

Laney College welcomed students, faculty, and staff back to campus with energy and optimism for the Fall 2025 term. Total enrollment reached 9,681 students, marking a 4% increase over last fall, a promising indicator of the continued growth and engagement within our community. Students can choose from 582 sections of classes, offering a wide range of opportunities to pursue academic, career, and personal goals.

This past spring, College of Alameda (CoA) engaged in a collaborative process to refresh our look with a new logo and brand guide. The design was shaped by broad collegewide participation, ensuring that our new identity reflects the collective spirit and vision of our community.

Fall Flex Day Welcomes Back BCC Community and Honors Retirees

Berkeley City College launched the new academic year with its Fall 2025 Flex Day on Friday, August 15, organized by the Professional Development Committee. The day began with a warm breakfast, providing faculty, staff, and administrators an opportunity to reconnect while enjoying a slideshow of summer vacation photos shared by employees.

The Peralta Community College District is excited to announce the first-ever Peralta Pumpkin Pursuit, a 5K run/walk fundraiser to benefit the Peralta Colleges Foundation. This event aims to bring our community together for a fun, active day while raising crucial funds to support our students and educational programs. 

At the August 14th District-wide Flex Day at Merritt College, Peralta Community College District Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson delivered a powerful and forward-looking address to faculty, classified professionals, and administrators. Her message was clear: it’s time to stop competing and start collaborating to better serve students across Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College.  

The Peralta Colleges Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Dr. Donald H. Godbold Endowed Memorial Scholarship, created to honor the enduring legacy of a man who was a visionary leader and a dedicated member of the Oakland community. This new scholarship will support Merritt College students as they continue their educational journeys.

OAKLAND, CA — In a bold step toward expanding access to union careers, Laney College—part of the Peralta Community College District—is offering students a direct pathway into high-demand construction trades through a new pre-apprenticeship program. Developed in partnership with the Alameda County Building Trades Council (ACBTC) and the Construction Trades Workforce Initiative (CTWI), the program is already transforming lives and strengthening ties between education and labor.
