Under beautiful blue skies and perfect sunny weather, College of Alameda proudly celebrated the Class of 2026 during its commencement ceremony on the campus soccer field on Friday, May 22, 2026. Before the ceremony began, graduates gathered in the gymnasium, taking photos and videos with friends, loved ones, classmates, and faculty as they prepared for one of the biggest milestones of their lives. The atmosphere across campus was filled with joy, reflection, and excitement for the journeys ahead.

Merritt College proudly celebrated the Class of 2026 during its commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 20th, honoring the hard work, perseverance, and accomplishments of this year’s graduates. It was an inspiring and emotional occasion as students who once walked the halls of Merritt College crossed the graduation stage, marking the culmination of years of dedication and determination. Faculty, staff, family members, and supporters gathered to celebrate not only academic achievement, but also the bright futures awaiting graduates as they move on to new careers, educational opportunities, and personal endeavors.

After a long-awaited return, the Landscape and Horticulture program at Merritt College has finally made a comeback with its annual plant sale. The packed-out, all-day event was hosted on May 2nd in the newly renovated Landscape and Horticulture building, welcoming roughly 450 community members, students, and plant enthusiasts who came out to support the program and its students. All plants available for purchase were grown and cultivated by Merritt College students and staff, highlighting the hands-on learning at the core of the program. Building on the momentum of the building’s grand opening in Fall 2025, the event not only reintroduced a beloved campus tradition but also showcased the expanded capacity of the program to serve more students through hands-on learning opportunities.

The Black Men’s Brain Health (BMBH) Initiative will host its 5th Annual Conference during Super Bowl Week, February 3-4, 2026, at Merritt College. This year’s gathering will explore the theme “The Power of Community Engagement: Transforming Black Men’s Participation in Brain Health and AD/ADRD Research.”

There’s nothing quite like the joy of being honored for the passion, effort, and artistry you devote to your craft. Creating something meaningful is already an accomplishment - but receiving a heartfelt “Well done!” on a major platform elevates that achievement into something unforgettable. 

Daniel Morga lives in Oakland and started working on cars with his dad at an early age. Ever since he was a little kid, he's always been fascinated by how cars work, how they are repaired, and using the right tool for the right job. He especially loves working for friends and neighbors, helping people get back on the road and knowing that his work has made a real difference in people's lives.

Like many other students, Stephen Hebrard is an overcomer. He is passionate about excelling in his education and is willing to face the challenges as they come - head on. As one of the assistant coaches for the Men’s basketball team at College of Alameda, Hebrard shares how EOPs has not only been a wonderful resource for his players, but even for himself.  

When the College of Alameda (CoA) began exploring a visual rebrand in early 2025, the question wasn’t simply “What should the new logo look like?” The question that arose was “Why now?”

Laney College and Merritt College campuses were both filled with smiles, laughter, andharmless Halloween mischiefas children from the Childcare Centers participated in Halloween festivities. Dressed in adorable costumes - from superheroes and princesses to tiny pumpkins and firefighters - the children brightened everyone’s day as they made their rounds collecting candy and snacks. 

Merritt College is embarking on a new digital chapter. The college has launched a completely redesigned website that sticks to its core mission: put students first. Making it easier than ever to access resources and support, the new website offers more accessibility than its predecessor.
