The Peralta Community College District is buzzing with excitement as both the Laney College women's basketball team and the College of Alameda men's basketball team showcased their talent in the 3C2A California Community Colleges Athletics Association playoffs!

The College of Alameda men's team delivered a thrilling performance in the first-round last week, securing a victory by two points on the road against College of the Redwoods (76-74), where they had a balanced attack with Isiah Hill, Jalen Scott, Isiah Fortenberry, Ahmaree Muhammed, and Jamahni Walker all scoring in double figures. Their dedication and hard work propelled them into the round of 32.  

While the Cougars’ journey concluded on Saturday, March 1st in a heartbreaking loss to San Jose City College, we applaud their remarkable season and playoff run. Under first year coach Gary Payton Sr. the team had an overall winning record and made the state playoffs, a vast improvement over their 7-21 season last year. They represented College of Alameda with immense pride. 

Meanwhile, the Laney College women's basketball team, ranked an impressive #5 in the state, continued their dominant season with a decisive playoff victory over Skyline College on Saturday (75-55)! Led by Madison Hill with 29 points, the Eagles outstanding performance has earned them a coveted spot in the Sweet 16.  

Congratulations to the Eagles and to Coach Ramaundo Vaughn for once again winning the Bay Valley conference and making the Sweet 16 in the playoffs. The next game will be Saturday, March 8th vs Sierra College. We wish them the best of luck as they continue their quest for the state championship.
