The Peralta Community College District is a proud supporter of AANAPISI Week (September 23-September 29, 2024). AANAPISI stands for Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions, which include Laney College and Berkeley City College. This week celebrates the AANAPISI designation, which was established by Congress on September 27, 2007, to improve the availability and quality of postsecondary education programs to support low-income, first-generation Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students.

Merritt College Hosts Successful East Bay Consortium Conference
On Tuesday, September 3, Merritt College was pleased to host the East Bay Consortium/ California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP) conference. We had a total of 166 attendees from across 63 different high schools, K-12 districts, community colleges, four-year institutions, and college-access providers!
Oakland Chinatown Street Fest
Laney College was honored to participate in the 35th annual Oakland Chinatown Street fest, held on August 26th -27th. Representatives from the Laney APASS Program and the Employment Services Center hosted an informational table, engaging with community members and sharing valuable information about educational and career opportunities available at Laney.
COA Hosts Fall New Student Orientation
On August 20th, the College of Alameda welcomed 49 new students to our beautiful campus in preparation for the start of the Fall semester. As the newest members of the Cougar family, we know the inherent value of learning how to navigate our college community and access the numerous resources available.
Fall Semester Kicks Off With Welcome Week at BCC
Berkeley City College opened the Fall semester with Welcome Week festivities, offering food, fun, and information to get students off to a successful start. On the first day of class, BCC provided free pastries and hot drinks for students on the way to their morning classes. On Tuesday, students were served burritos from Chiquis Food Truck during college hours in the Atrium.

On August 15, 2024, Peralta Community College District employees (and at least one student!) gathered at Laney College for a dynamic and engaging Flex Day focused on professional development. Organized by district-wide Professional Development Co-Coordinators Chelsea Cohen and Marla Leech (both Laney College faculty members), the event was a resounding success, bringing together educators from across the district to enhance their skills, particularly with regards to Artificial Intelligence (AI), and collaborate on maximizing student success in the upcoming semester.
