On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, an announcement on behalf of Interim Chancellor Dr. Carla Walter was sent to all District employees. Dear Peralta Community, I’m writing to help us all in our planning for summer and fall 2021 semesters. We continue to work closely with local public health officials and the State Chancellor's Office while we serve the community and meet our mission. Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College and Merritt College will continue to offer the majority of the courses and services as online or hybrid this summer and fall semester. |

Accreditation Site Visits Result in Praise for the Colleges

Educators from peer institutions across the Western Association of Schools and Colleges conducted virtual site visits of the Peralta Community College District and the four colleges last week, March 1-4. These peer reviews were conducted on behalf of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) and were part of an accreditation process that included the Special Reports we submitted last November and the Institutional Self Evaluation Reports (ISERs) submitted in December 2020. The visits went well. We’re writing to share with you some preliminary good news that we received during the accreditation site visits last week.

Dr. Angélica Garcia, President of Berkeley City College (BCC), a dynamic leader, educator, and fearless advocate for equity and social justice, has been honored by inclusion in a list of 25 outstanding educators published by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. The March 4, 2021 issue of Diverse, published in honor of Women’s History Month, is the publication’s 10th anniversary of highlighting women who have made a difference in the academy by tackling some of education’s toughest challenges.

Two Peralta Community College District Administrators, Dr. Siri Brown (Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Student Success) and Dr. David M. Johnson (President of Merritt College) have recently received recognition for their community service from local non-profit organizations.
Gateway Student Announced as DREAM Scholar

Jasminh Au is a current senior student for the Gateway to College Program at Laney College and has been announced as the program’s 2021 DREAM Scholar. She is an aspiring Oceanography major and is planning to directly transfer from Gateway to the Hawaii Pacific University at Honolulu. She is a resilient, confident and great student leader in the program.
William Ochoa, Director of Gateway to College says, “to my understanding she is breaking down barriers as to what a dually enrolled student can obtain through her tenure here at our program.” Each DREAM Scholar received a Phi Theta Kappa scholarship in recognition of their success.

PeopleSoft code freeze & migration coming up on February 10

The Peralta Community College District has been working for many months toward an update of PeopleSoft software from Oracle. We are nearing the next step in the upgrade process, which is to cut over from our current version to 9.2. This cut over process will last several days, beginning on February 10 and concluding on February 16. This cutover is timed during a long holiday weekend so as to minimize disruption to work and study. The Peralta Colleges are closed Friday February 12 in observance of Lincoln’s birthday and Monday February 15 in observance of Washington’s birthday. |
