Laney College Continues to Address Food Insecurity Through New Food Pantry

Laney’s Basic Needs Center and Food Services are proud to announce that support for students continues with its Food Pantry, a permanent space in the Student Center opening in Fall 2020. Using a “grab and go” consumer model, students have access to needed nutrition and will be able to get food in a way that destigmatizes food insecurity.

COA Hosts Annual Committed Day and In-Person Orientation for the 2024-2025 Incoming Class

On Thursday, July 25, 2024, College of Alameda hosted CoA Committed Day and the first In-Person Orientation since the pandemic. Both events were designed to engage, inform, and prepare our new students for the 2024-25 academic year. Preparing for our incoming students was campus campus-wide collaborative effort.

On Thursday, August 8, Berkeley City College administrators convened at their annual Manager’s Retreat at the Faculty Club at UC Berkeley. President Richardson led the group through team-building exercises, an overview of the College’s strategic plan, a discussion on innovative approaches to closing equity gaps, and a review of the Mission, Vision, and Values.

Following through on Merritt College’s commitment to Black student success in our Educational Master Plan, VPI Lisa Cook and I participated in CSU’s Second Annual Juneteenth Symposium, hosted by Sacramento State on June 13-14. This was an opportunity to connect Merritt with the inspiring work within the CSU system to advance Black student success by centering the African American educational experience.

Laney Enjoys Increased Summer, Fall 2024 Enrollments

With the Summer 2024 semester underway, the College is pleased to share that enrollment numbers are high despite reductions in scheduling. Though the Summer Schedule is 6% smaller than last year’s, the College is enjoying 4% growth from a year ago in enrollment and 3% more resident Full Time Equivalent student numbers.
