College of Alameda celebrated its 2023 graduates with a fully in-person event on May 26 on the CoA soccer field. The commencement ceremony included speeches from Acting CoA President Dr. Diana Bajrami, incoming President of the Faculty Senate of College of Alameda Jennifer Fowler, and Valedictorian Verlie Carmack Collins.

With a triumphant return to fully in-person celebrations, Berkeley City College celebrated its graduating class on May 24, 2023. Ms. Maria Valencia currently works in the Office of Instruction as the assistant to the VPI. She describes herself as a first-generation student from a very impoverished background, but also as someone who always had a strong desire to earn a college degree.
Laney College Professor Mark Rauzon’s Summer Work in the Arctic

Professor Mark Rauzon will be the seabird observer on a research expedition to the Bering Sea and beyond on a Canadian Ice Breaker. Leaving Victoria BC on July 5th, Prof. Rauzon will be collecting seabird distribution data when the ship is underway and when the ship is on station.

Berkeley City College Umoja Leader Eneni Frank Wins PAAAA Scholarship Award

Berkeley City College graduate and Umoja Leader Eneni Frank was this year’s BCC recipient of the Peralta Association of African American Affairs Scholarship. Frank, who will be transferring to UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, was awarded $750 along with 4 other PCCD scholars at the PAAAA Scholarship Award Ceremony on Thursday, May 4 at the Peralta Community College District Atrium.
