In Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom, Bell Hooks wrote, “The classroom remains the most radical space of possibility in the academy.” It is this intention and the influence of teachers, thinkers, and writers like Hooks that led the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) Executive Committee to select the theme for this session, "Radicalizing Spaces of Possibility: Faculty Leadership in Vision 2030".

On Thursday, April 11th, Student Trustees Natasha Masand and Naomi Vasquezled another successful district-wide meeting of student leaders, following up on their initial meeting on February 28th. This meeting included Associated Student government groups from each of the four colleges.

On Wednesday, April 10-12, the annual Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO) Conference was held in Santa Cruz. CCPRO is focused on professional development and the sharing of best practices among the California Community Colleges' marketing and communications teams across the state.

On April 3-5, Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE) held their annual national conference in Oakland with the theme of "RADICAL HOPE LEADING WITH LOVE, COURAGE, & ACTION". The event saw over 1300 attendees, including Peralta employees such as Board Trustee Nicky González Yuen and Chancellor Tammeil Gilkerson.

On Thursday, March 28th, Peralta’s first-ever Professional Development Day held exclusively for Classified Professionals was hosted by College of Alameda. The day included speeches from the Presidents, raffles for gifts, a powerful keynote on the importance of self-care for those who are responsible for helping others by Dr. Dawn Moultrie, and workshops on retirement planning with CalPERS and Understanding Boundaries to protect students and employees by ASCIP, Peralta's insurance provider. Attendees also enjoyed delicious tacos and dancing, too!

The Peralta Colleges were well-represented in the March 2024 issue of "LIFT your Voice”, a publication of the Leadership Institute for Tomorrow at Cal State Fullerton, which aims to impact higher-education systems and communities by developing a new generation of diverse, confident, and competent leaders with the change agency to reconstruct community colleges, universities, and organizations into just, equitable, and inclusive institutions free of racism.
