The Peralta Community College District held its Fall District-wide Flex Day on Thursday, August 17, 2023. The day was dedicated to professional development for faculty and staff, with a focus on equity and inclusion, as we prepare for the August 21st, 2023, start of the Fall 2023 semester.

OAKLAND, Calif., August 14, 2023 – Laney College will offer students introductory courses in Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics (AIDA) beginning this fall, to get students started on a pathway that will lead to careers in this exciting and innovative field. Laney becomes one of the first community colleges in the state with such a program. Laney's partnerships with industry leaders including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Intel, and Google will help prepare students for a career in the field or to transfer to a four-year school for additional study.

Merritt African American Studies Students Study Abroad in Jamaica

Students who enrolled in Merritt College’s African American Studies 27 course (Afro-Caribbean History, Politics, and Culture) recently returned from their study abroad trip to Jamaica. This was a tremendous opportunity for them to learn first-hand about the historical, economic, and cultural development of the Caribbean and the effects of colonization on the region.

The Alameda Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) class of 2023 celebrated their commencement at the College of Alameda Gymnasium on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students, family members, friends, and the entire AUSD Board of Trustees participated in the joyous occasion. Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell, PCCD Interim Chancellor Dr. Jannett Jackson, and PCCD Trustee Bill Withrow also attended the event. Trustee Withrow and Chancellor Jackson received special recognition for their unwavering support to ASTI since its initial creation in 2004.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Amy Lee (she/her), who was recently selected to be Dean of Enrollment Services for Berkeley City College. Dr. Lee has 20 years of experience working in educational institutions including K-12, higher education, and non-profit spaces. Dr. Lee joins us from our sister campus at College of Alameda, where she served as Dean of Enrollment Services since 2013. Dr. Lee believes education is transformative; her passion for educational access, equity, and success is grounded by her experience as a first-generation college student from a low-income, immigrant family.
Peralta Bids Farewell and a Happy Retirement to Long-Time Employee Alfredo Colon

Alfredo Colon, or Freddy as he liked to be called, retired this week effective July 18th, after more than 39 years working for the district. A Utility Engineer in the General Services department, we wish Freddy the best with the next chapter in his life, which will, fortunately for Peralta, include Freddy’s presence at Peralta in a part-time capacity.
