Laney College Hosts Successful Community Job Hiring Event

On March 20, 2025, Laney College hosted a Community Job Hiring Event, providing students, alumni, and community members with information about employment opportunities. Attendees connected with employers from organizations such as the Oakland Zoo, ChildCare Careers, Oakland Marriott City Center, CareBuilders at Home East Bay, Allied Universal Event Services, The Plus Group, and Youth Together.

The event was organized through the efforts of Raya Zion, Laney College Eagle Hire Employment Program Manager, and provided job seekers with the opportunity to network with hiring managers, explore career options, and take steps toward securing employment. Laney College remains committed to supporting career development and workforce readiness for its students and the broader community.

Laney College Celebrates Mongolian Heritage with Cultural Event

Laney College students and employees gathered on March 13th for the Mongolian Heritage event, hosted by the Mongolian Student Club in collaboration with the Laney Asian Pacific American Student Success program (APASS). The event showcased Mongolian culture through traditional performances, food, and interactive activities.

Attendees had the opportunity to experience Mongolia’s rich nomadic traditions and learn more about its history and customs. Laney College continues to support cultural appreciation and diversity through events that bring students together in celebration of global heritage. The college was honored that Mr. Munkhbaatar Begzjav, the Consul General of Mongolia in San Francisco, attended the event.

Peralta Leaders Attend ACCJC Conference

On April 1st, 14 Peralta leaders from all our colleges attended a one-day conference put on by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. The conference was focused on how colleges could improve how they “tell the story” of the college to the public on their website and in public documents.

Laney was represented by the President of the Classified Senate, Hope Lane, the President of the Faculty Senate, Leslie Blackie, the Co-Chair of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee, Heather Sisneros, the Vice President of Student Services, Lily Espinoza, and the Acting President, Becky Opsata.
