Peralta Colleges Celebrate AANAPISI Week September 23-29, 2024

PCCD AANAPISI Week 2024 Banner

The Peralta Community College District is a proud supporter of AANAPISI Week (September 23-September 29, 2024). AANAPISI stands for Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions, which include Laney College and Berkeley City College. This week celebrates the AANAPISI designation, which was established by Congress on September 27, 2007, to improve the availability and quality of postsecondary education programs to support low-income, first-generation Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students.

AANAPISI Week commemorates the significance and achievements of AANAPISIs and allows organizations and institutions to celebrate the educational support of underserved AANHPI students.

Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders are a highly diverse and fast-growing community in the United States. AANHPI college students come from distinctive identities and backgrounds—beginning their journeys in higher education from different income brackets, immigration experiences, and often being the first in their families to attend college. Learn more about the many ethnicities, languages, and stories from our community at https://tinyurl.com/AANAPISI-2024 as we continue to celebrate AANAPISI Week!

Show Your Support!

AANAPSIs have long been underfunded compared to their counterparts. Inequitable funding limits the number of institutions providing targeted support and programs to first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented AANHPI students. Congress must expand funding for AANAPISIs to promote equity in higher education, access to college, and opportunities for underrepresented AANHPI students while maintaining support for other MSIs.
