Two College of Alameda Automotive Technology (Atech) students, Yumeus (Missy) Taylor and Jorge Sandoval, were awarded Ozzie Day Scholarships this spring. As you can see from the photos below, both of them maintained social distancing protocols when they got their checks! All in-person Atech labs this semester have been running with full Covid protocols.

Peralta Colleges' First Online Equity Conference a Major Success
May 10, 2021 7:04:03 PM / by Mark Johnson -->
Peralta Online Equity conference took place virtually from April 21 to April 23, 2021. This global conference welcomed equity-minded educators, colleges, universities, non-profit organizations and vendors from all around the world. The basic goals of this conference were 1) to increase the visibility of efforts to increase learning equity in higher education and 2) to bring together institutions that want to share and adopt equitable practices for all online students globally. The conference included three types of activities to mirror the scaffolded learning process from Peralta's Online Equity Training: LEARN via Day 1 presentations, ANALYZE through Day 2 discussions, and BUILD during Day 3 workshops. Also, all sessions were recorded and captioned to accommodate busy schedules and global time zones.

Remembering BCC Student Demetrius Roosevelt Fleming-Davis
May 6, 2021 4:36:48 PM / by Angélica Garcia -->
At Berkeley City College, we transform lives. It is devastating when one of those lives is tragically lost. This past weekend we learned that BCC student Demetrius Roosevelt Fleming-Davis was struck and killed by a stray gunshot in West Oakland on April 10, 2021. He was 18 years old. He would have turned 19 last Thursday. I am heartbroken by this tragedy and another senseless killing in our community. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
