During the May 25, 2021 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the appointment of Dr. Ronald McKinley as the Interim Vice Chancellor of Human Resources and Employee Relations. Dr. McKinley had been serving as the Acting VC of HR since December 2020. Dr. McKinley has over 25 years of experience as a Chief Human Resources Officer and more than 35 years of experience in human resources management.
On July 1st, 2021, the Laney College team welcomed the new Vice President of Instruction Dr. Becky Opsata. Before joining Laney, Dr Opsata served as Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation at Diablo Valley College for 15 years, and before that at California State University Northridge as faculty member in Communication Studies for 6 years. Dr. Opsata comes to Laney bringing impressive work experience and big plans for the college. On July 7th, one week after being appointed Vice President of Instruction, Dr. Becky Opsata was already engaged in some of her projects for the next year, getting students back to campus.
On May 17, 2021, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) proudly welcomed the new Director of Human Resources Mrs. Immaculate Adesida. Mrs. Adesida comes to Peralta College bringing an impressive background. Before joining the Peralta team, she served as a Human Resource Director in an institution in the Silicon Valley. Additionally, Mrs. Adesida served as a Human Resources Manager in other educational institutions to include UC Berkeley and Solano Community College.

Even while CoA’s Career and Employment Center campus location has been closed these past months during the pandemic, Career Center staff have made extraordinary efforts to continue to support clients by providing important resources and services to many in our community who were affected by the pandemic.
Laney CTE Summer Institute
Laney College is proud to have concluded another successful Career and Technical Education (CTE) Summer Institute last week, which hosted 144 high school students from districts within our service area. The six-week program was designed to give prospective students a look into Laney’s CTE programs and campus resources that will help them achieve their goals.
It's summertime, but despite the world opening up (and perhaps closing down a bit again), it is still nice to spend some time being transported through quality television. Journey with Peralta TV to learn about education in El Salvador, Black ASL (American Sign Language), the emerald trade, the challenges of a young transgender Latina, and the rise and fall of the Aztecs. Something for everyone.
