The Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees were extremely busy in July following the unexpected resignation of Chancellor Dr. Regina Stanback Stroud on July 16, 2020. 

In a special meeting on Saturday, July 18, 2020, the Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees voted to accept the resignation of the former chancellor.  The Board also committed to an expedited search for interim chancellor which will be followed by a longer search for the District’s permanent chancellor pursuant to Board Policy 2431. On Sunday July 19, 2020, the Board announced that Dr. Carla Walter, Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, will serve as the Acting Chancellor for the District, an appointment that was formalized by the Trustees at their regular July 28 meeting.  The Board expresses its appreciation and support of Dr. Walter as she leads the District during this transition.

The Board of Trustees met again for a Retreat on August 3, 2020. This retreat included collaboration with Dr. Helen Benjamin, the former chancellor of the Contra Costa Community College District and a consultant hired by the Board to lead the Interim Chancellor search. Following the retreat with Dr. Benjamin, Board President Julina Bonilla issued a district wide announcement updating the community on the search timeline and process.
