We are excited to share that at the July 28 meeting of the Peralta Board of Trustees, Dr. Don Miller was confirmed as Interim President at College of Alameda to serve in that role until a permanent president is hired.
Dr. Don Miller has served as Vice President of Instruction at College of Alameda since January 2018 and as President Elect of the California Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers organization. Prior to his current positions, he worked as Interim Vice President of Academic Services and as a Dean of Arts and Humanities and learning communities at Las Positas College. He also served on ACCJC accreditation teams and university program review teams over the course of his career. Dr. Miller spent 8.5 years as chair of large multicultural, multilingual departments of modern and classical languages at private and public universities, including CSU, and Chico. He spent 20 years as an instructional faculty member in Spanish programs teaching courses in language and grammar, human and civil rights in the Spanish-speaking world, culture, literature, and Latin American Studies. He has also led study abroad programs to Mexico and Cuba, directed Spanish-language college theatrical productions, and published articles on gender and sexuality as they relate to art, culture, history, and literature in the Spanish-speaking world.
In a letter to the COA community, Dr. Miller expressed his honor at the opportunity to lead the college in this interim capacity. He highlighted several areas of focus for his tenure, including ensuring the safety of the campus community through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and continuing to work on the campus climate by addressing campus racial and social justice concerns.
President Miller noted: "College of Alameda is a truly incredible place to work with dedicated classified professionals, instructors, and administrators who I see daily doing their best to meet the needs of our students."
We welcome Dr. Miller to his new role and look forward what he'll bring to our community.
