WHEREAS, Dr. Carla Walter started working at the Peralta Community College District as Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration on March 16, 2020, right after the COVID-19 pandemic shelter-in-place directive took effect;  

  

WHEREAS, Dr. Walter became Acting Chancellor on July 18, 2020 and following a search process the Board of Trustees appointed her as Interim Chancellor beginning on October 1, 2020; 

  

WHEREAS, Dr. Carla Walter has done important work as Interim Chancellor of the Peralta Community College District since accepting the position of leading it through a challenging time in the District’s history; 

  

WHEREAS, her work in partnership with the administration and faculty has put the District on the path towards full accreditation for all its colleges; 

  

WHEREAS, Dr. Carla Walter accomplished this in the face of the turmoil created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the immense challenges it created for educational institutions; 

  

WHEREAS, because of her tireless efforts, the Peralta Community College District continues to meet the needs of more than 35,000 urban students with a dynamic, multicultural learning environment that offers these deserving students accessible, high-quality educational programs, including two-year degrees, certificates and university transfer programs; 

  

WHEREAS, in all these endeavors, Dr. Carla Walter has  demonstrated her relentless commitment to the Peralta Community College District and to the higher educational opportunities it provides to ALL the citizens of Alameda County; 

  

WHEREAS, after this service to the community, Dr. Carla Walter will step down from her position as Interim Chancellor on April 15, 2021; 

  

NOW BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Governing Board of the Peralta Community College District expresses its gratitude to Dr. Carla Walter for her leadership, partnership and accomplishments that have greatly elevated the Peralta Community College District and once again helped make it a beacon of learning and public service to Alameda County. 

PROCLAIMED by the Board on this Thirteenth Day of April 2021.
