Peralta Community College District has received strong credit ratings ahead of our final Measure G bond issuance: AAA from Fitch for our 2026 general obligation bonds and AA-/Stable from S&P Global Ratings.
On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon returned to her roots with a message of perseverance and possibility during a visit to the digital fabrication laboratories at Laney College and College of Alameda. While visiting, she announced a combined $250,000 investment to support innovation, student success, and workforce development across the two campuses.
The Peralta Community College District Children's Centers (located at Laney College & Merritt College) are currently recruiting and enrolling new families with children ages 2-5 years. The centers provide free/low-fee, high-quality childcare.
At the June 9 meeting, the Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees recognized outgoing Student Trustees Léo Migliaccio and Ahyan Malik for their commitment to representing students during the past academic year.
At the June 23rd Board of Trustees meeting, Student Trustee Ahyan Malik shared that he had been accepted to several prestigious universities – with full scholarship offers - including Yale University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
On June 2nd, Measure A – the reauthorization of a parcel tax supporting Peralta – passed with 87% of the vote, which is incredible. I am deeply humbled and grateful for this overwhelming vote of confidence in the Peralta Community College District, our colleges, our students, and the important work each of you does every day in service to our communities.

Spring brings exciting momentum for the Holistic Safety & Wellness Committee (HSWC), which continues to advance a community-centered approach to campus safety across all four Peralta colleges and the District Service Center.
The Peralta Colleges Foundation hosted its annual “Dr. William (Bill) Riley Swing for Student Success Golf Tournament” on Monday, June 6, 2026, at the Richmond Golf Club, bringing together community members, sponsors, volunteers, and students for a highly successful day of fundraising.
We trust by now you are familiar with our plans to merge Laney College and Merritt College into Oakland City College. The Peralta community—including faculty, classified professionals, administrators, and especially students—has been actively driving this process forward through our established Shared Governance process for the past year.
At the final 2025-26 Academic Year Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson celebrated a milestone academic year for the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) by inviting each of the college presidents to share highlights from the last school year.
