The Peralta Community College District (PCCD) headquarters was transformed into a vibrant, chic piano bar and lounge on Friday, February 27th, as the Peralta Colleges Foundation hosted its first-ever "Peralta Piano Party." The high-energy fundraiser brought together employees, friends, family, trustees, and community partners for an evening dedicated to expanding educational access through student scholarships. The event featured a "dueling pianos" performance by Felix and the Fingers—musicians Chris Gale, Jake Carter, and drummer Jae Jackson—who kept the crowd engaged with music and laughter. PCCD Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson took on a unique role for the evening, serving as the event’s guest bartender! Reflecting on the festivities, Chancellor Gilkerson described the night as "a fun evening of music, laughter, and incredible food."

Attendees embraced every note as the show kicked off, with one unforgettable moment during “Purple Rain” (by Prince) when everybody got their phone flashlights and waved them like lighters while singing along. The crowd also vocalized their adoration during a rousing rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” (by Queen), proving that dueling pianos can unite everyone.

The atrium’s sophisticated atmosphere was made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Administrative Services team, led by COO Greg Nelson. From handcrafted centerpieces and gift bags to the professional staging provided by district engineers and custodians, every detail was designed to impress. The culinary experience was equally noteworthy, featuring a charcuterie spread by Bc Hoff and professional catering services provided by Neil Burmenko and the talented students of the Laney College Culinary Arts program.

The generosity of the Peralta community was on full display, with significant support from sponsors including Board President Louis Quindlen, Vice President Paulina Gonzalez-Brito, Trustee Nicky González-Yuen, Alten Construction, and Future Flooring Group. Trustee Cindi Napoli-Abella Reiss also joined the effort, assisting with the event’s conclusion and cleanup.

By the end of the night, the Foundation had surpassed its goals. Greg Nelson said the event raised nearly $80,000 thanks to the collective generosity of sponsors, and that after expenses, the net was $70,000 for student scholarships. These funds will provide critical financial support, ensuring that Peralta students have the resources necessary to achieve their academic dreams.
