Earthquake Preparedness: Great Shakeout is October 16th

Here in the East Bay, we live in an earthquake zone, so it’s important that we all know what to do to keep as safe as possible during a quake. The Great California Shakeout on October 16, 2025, at 10:16 am, is an opportunity to test our emergency preparedness in case of an earthquake. On that day and time, the Peralta Community College District will test our emergency communication system, Rave, by sending you all a text and email message advising you of the Great Shakeout emergency earthquake test.
Peralta Colleges Foundation Golf Tournament Raises Over $250K for Students

On September 8, 2025, the Peralta Colleges Foundation hosted the annual “Dr. William (Bill) Riley Swing for Student Success Golf Tournament” at the Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills. The golf tournament is the major annual fundraising event for the Foundation, which provides students at Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College with much-needed financial resources, including scholarships, grants, and mentoring.

California Architects Board Meets at Laney College
On August 21, 2025, Laney College was honored to host the California Architects Board public meeting at the BEST Center. The statewide regulatory body oversees the licensure and practice of architects in California and gathered to discuss legislative updates, licensing matters, and national professional standards.

Back to Fall at Laney College: A Strong Start for 2025
Laney College welcomed students, faculty, and staff back to campus with energy and optimism for the Fall 2025 term. Total enrollment reached 9,681 students, marking a 4% increase over last fall, a promising indicator of the continued growth and engagement within our community. Students can choose from 582 sections of classes, offering a wide range of opportunities to pursue academic, career, and personal goals.

Laney College Program Builds Bridge to Union Careers for Students

OAKLAND, CA — In a bold step toward expanding access to union careers, Laney College—part of the Peralta Community College District—is offering students a direct pathway into high-demand construction trades through a new pre-apprenticeship program. Developed in partnership with the Alameda County Building Trades Council (ACBTC) and the Construction Trades Workforce Initiative (CTWI), the program is already transforming lives and strengthening ties between education and labor.
