Laney Career and Resource Fair 2023 Travels to Oakland Chinatown
On April 5, 2023, the Asian Pacific American Student Success (APASS) program, partnering with the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, Oakland Asian Cultural Center, and the Lao Family Community Development Foundation hosted a Job Readiness Bootcamp at the Asian Cultural Center in Oakland Chinatown.

Phi Theta Kappa Honors Laney College Student
On Thursday, March 23, the College community was warmed with the news that student Nicholas Rothman was one of the select 75 honorees in the state to receive a Phi Theta Kappa California Community College award. These awards are made by the Community College League, honoring students who “have persevered and excelled in their college efforts and deserve recognition for their achievements.” We congratulate Nicholas, who among other honors will be featured in a statewide yearbook that features all winners. Laney is proud!

Congratulations to the Laney College Women's Basketball team on a great season. The team reached the state semifinals before falling to the Santa Rosa Bearcubs despite a valiant effort until the very last second of the game. Laney Welcomes New Web Content Developer

Chanda Brewer has joined Laney College as its new Web Content Developer. Ms. Brewer comes with a wide range of experience in web design and development, specifically a 20+ year background in Marketing and Management for the technology and hospitality industries in Oakland and San Francisco. Coupled with her expertise in web-based technology is a strong background in marketing, including online promotions, as well as other experience in the private business sector.

Laney College Basic Needs Center
The Rescue Agency (https://rescueagency.com/) hosted a March 1 CalFresh College Tour pop-up event on the Laney College Quad, where students learned more about the CalFresh Program, including eligibility requirements. CalFresh is a Federally funded program that provides a partial subsidy to qualified applicants who are struggling with food insecurity. Laney College’s 2022-23 Free College Initiative a Success in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif., March 3, 2023 – Laney College, following its "Fall is Free" and "Spring is Free" campaigns to cover higher education costs for California students, is reporting an 18% increase in the number of students from a year ago, with 33% more African American students attending as well as a 21% jump in those identifying as Latinx.
