President’s Roundtable Meets for First Time Since Pandemic

The College of Alameda President’s Roundtable held its first post-pandemic breakfast meeting on April 19, 2023, at the College’s Liberal Arts Center Conference Room. The Roundtable was formed in 2015 to include key individuals from business, industry, government, education, and the philanthropic sector who would serve as the College’s strategic advisors and play an important role in helping ensure the success of College programs and students. Roundtable Members also participated in the virtual College’s 50^th Anniversary Online Gala in 2020. The last time that the Roundtable met in person was in October 2019.

College of Alameda's Puente scholars attended Puente Day at the University of California (UC) Berkeley on March 23, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students received a warm welcome from Puente State Office Executive Director Julia Vergara and heard from a panel of current UC Berkeley students.

Mayor Ashcraft’s State of the City Outlook Is Optimistic

The Alameda Chamber and Economic Alliance hosted City officials for the Alameda State of the City 2023 aboard the USS Hornet on Thursday, March 30, 2023. College of Alameda and Peralta Community College District participants included PCCD Trustee Bill Withrow, Professor Andrew Park, Dean Eva Jennings, Director Stefanie Bradshaw, President’s Office Staff Services Specialist Chungwai Chum, and Acting President Dr. Diana Bajrami.

OAKLAND, Calif., April 18, 2023 – Course registration fees are being waived for the Fall 2023 semester at all four of the colleges within the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) for a second year. Available to all California residents regardless of documented status, the fee waiver has no minimum course requirement.

Laney College ASLC Student Government leaders Meaghan Connor, Joshua Kofo, Nicholas Rothman, and Director Atiya Rashada join Student Boday President Omolola Atolagbe and their Peralta counterparts at the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) General Assembly, which took place from March 30th to April 2nd in Long Beach.

College of Alameda’s Learning Resource Center Coordinator Johanna Carranza, and Director of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Grant Horacio Corona Lira, presented a workshop during the 15^th Annual Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators (AHSIE) Best Practices Conference on March 13, 2023, in San Francisco, California.

Puente Program Holds Its Annual Puente Mentor and Mentee Mixer

College of Alameda's (CoA) Puente Program held its annual Puente Mentor and Mentee Mixer on Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. This was Puente's first in-person Mentor and Mentee Mixer. Puente students and their mentors networked through a series of icebreaker activities and enjoyed pan dulce and chocolate.

College of Alameda's Puente team attended Puente’s 40th Anniversary Statewide Conference: Healing & Justice in Education from March 1, 2023, to March 3, 2023, at the Riverside Convention Center, in Riverside Ca. This conference brings together Puente college and secondary practitioners from California, Texas, and Washington States.

CoA Hosts Annual High School Partners Breakfast

In early March 2023, College of Alameda Student Services hosted its Annual High School Partners Breakfast. Over 60 participants representing 29 high schools and pre-college programs across five school districts attended the event. CoA’s Annual High School Partners Breakfast brings together school counselors, advisors, and other education professionals who provide direct services to high school students.
