A New Educational Master Plan: Charting the Course of CoA’s Future
On May 5, 2022, College of Alameda held a college-wide forum to embark on the exciting and important work of creating the College’s next Educational Master Plan (EMP). CoA’s 2022-2027 EMP will articulate a long-term, data-driven vision for the College that will include: supporting the College’s Guided Pathways initiative; improving student equity, inclusion, and accessibility; crafting a framework to inform critical decision-making; providing fiscal stewardship; and aligning with the District’s planning themes.

College of Alameda Named a 2022 Champion for Excelling in Equitable Course Placement in Black English Throughput
The Campaign for College of Opportunity President Michele Siqueiros publicly announced on April 22, 2022, that College of Alameda successfully supported at least 70% of Black students in completing a transfer-level English course within one year of their initial enrollment. In addition, the College supported Black students in succeeding at rates overall equivalent to or exceeding those of its student body as a whole.

Alameda State of the City Event Attracts Over 200 Attendees
CoA and PCCD representatives attended the Alameda State of the City event on April 7, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hosted by the Alameda Chamber of Commerce aboard the USS Hornet, a museum ship, located on the southernmost pier of the former Naval Air Station in Alameda.

Congratulations are in order for College of Alameda which has been named a 2022 Champion for Excelling in Equitable Course Placement in Black English Throughput by The Campaign for College Opportunity. The Campaign for College Opportunity describes itself as "focused on a single mission: Working to ensure all Californians have an equal opportunity to attend and succeed in college in order to build a vibrant workforce, economy and democracy." College of Alameda President Nathaniel Jones II noted 'the college is thankful for the recognition of the College of Alameda’s work to foster greater levels of achievement equity.'

College of Alameda Strategic Management Initiatives and Updates
On March 10, 2022, CoA Business and Administrative Services Vice President Augustine Gill arranged a dialogue with the District Finance Team (led by PCCD Interim Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration Adil Ahmed) reviewing audit findings and brainstorming solutions to improve internal controls and communications between the College and District Finance Team.

CoA joins the Second California Community Colleges Racial Equity Leadership Alliance
CoA’s executive leadership team is deeply committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at the College. Advancing DEI is one of the four CoA institutional priorities for Academic Year 21-22. As part of our work to advance DEI and commitment to equitable student success, CoA has joined 68 other California Community Colleges in participating in the second California Community Colleges Racial Equity Leadership Alliance.
