On Friday January 10, International Student Orientation took place here at the District office. Students from all over the world attended to hear the Peralta Office of International Education staff offer tips to help prepare them for the new semester. Congrats to Thomas Torres-Gil (Director of International Education), Drew Gephart (International Services Manager) and the whole International Education team for putting on a tremendous program for these students. This photo was taken right after breakfast at 9am...what a wonderful way to start the day!

Welcome Dr. Deborah Budd as BCC Interim President

Dr David Johnson at Board Meeting

From Chancellor Stanback Stroud:

Some may not have heard that Merritt College President Marie-Elaine Burns had an accident in December that resulted in injury.  She says that she is healing and extends her appreciation to all who have extended her well wishes.  With my support and encouragement, she is taking the time to heal.

I have asked Dr. David Johnson to serve as the acting President.  Dr. Burns requests that you provide him and the leadership team with the necessary support to properly steward the college.  The district office will be of service and support as well. Thank you for your sensitivity, understanding and support.  Please join me in wishing Dr. Burns a quick recovery and Dr. Johnson a smooth start as acting President of Merritt College.

Chancellor Stanback Stroud Selected to be Wheelhouse Fellow

Dr. Regina Stanback Stroud

The Collaborative Brain Trust Fiscal Improvement Plan Reports recommends that Peralta Community College District “Streamline and Build a cohesive Executive Cabinet for PCCD to model and exercise strong leadership and management of the District and its colleges.” We are approaching that recommendation on multiple fronts, one of which is to build a cohesive strong executive team though identifying standards of excellence, performing analysis of the team with a view toward ensuring consistent high-performance, and supporting individual leadership development.

Regarding leadership development, we're pleased to report that Dr. Regina Stanback Stroud has been selected to be a Davis Wheelhouse: The Center for Community College Leadership and Research Fellow in the March 2020 cohort of leaders. She will receive a full-ride scholarship to cover the $12,000 program cost.

The institute, housed at the University of California, Davis School of Education, is designed to strengthen leadership and practice in the California Community Colleges. Leaders explore challenges and opportunities in an environment designed to enable the exchange of new ideas in a forward-thinking environment. Sessions include innovative speakers, leadership case studies, and personal and organizational analytics. Institutes also enable time for reflection and relationship-building with supportive peers.

Congratulations to Chancellor Stanback Stroud and Peralta Community College District.

Upgraded Security Cameras at COA

Vice Chancellor Leigh Sata, the team at DGS in collaboration with colleagues in IT have some good news. The head end (servers) for the camera upgrade project was completed over the holiday break, and as a result, cameras at COA are back online.  OJO Technologies, as well as Sandi Daniel and Antoine Mehouelley (from our own IT Department) should be commended for working over the break to ensure positive results.  OJO will be checking the other three campuses in the coming weeks to address issues for each of those campuses.  This project to replace the head end is phase one of the camera replacement upgrade.  There is more work to be done, but this is a very good start.
