We are pleased to introduce Ronnie Lewis as the new Laney College Director of Financial Aid. Ronnie joins Laney College with a breadth financial aid experience serving in both higher education and K-12 settings.
Ronnie previously served as Assistant Director of Financial Aid at the University of California Davis School of Law in addition to serving as a Financial Aid Officer for the Los Rios Community College District overseeing financial aid operations, compliance, and loan programs; as well as federal, state, and institutional programs. In addition to his Financial Aid expertise, Ronnie has also served as a Title I K-12 math teacher, specialist, and mentor working with disadvantaged youth.
Ronnie practices an equity-based student service ideology linear to Laney College’s mission statement for student success and empowerment. Ronnie possess a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Sociology from California State University, Sacramento with a minor in Education- Teaching, Equity, and Engagement. In support, Ronnie served appointment as chair of Student and Staff Equity Committees in addition to implementing financial aid equity programs at respective educational institutions in which he increased the percentage of aid received among underserved populations.
Ronnie is a Bay Area native, born in San Jose and second youngest of seven siblings, whom in his spare time enjoys hiking, outdoor adventures, spending time with family, cooking, and watching sports- Raider Nation. Ronnie is also a wood revivalist artist whom restores second hands wooden pieces. Being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews is his greatest joy in life.
Growing up, college was not marketed as a possibility within Ronnie’s community; with this in mind he pledges to support and empower every student he encounters to complete their educational journey, achieve their goals, and become the best versions of themselves.
