On Monday, June 7, 2021 at Laney College, free Moderna COVID vaccinations were given to students, staff, their families, and community members. Interim Chancellor Dr. Jannett N. Jackson provided an update on the vaccine event during the Chancellor's Report at the June 8, 2021 Board of Trustees meeting.
Dr. Jackson said, "My thanks to retired Laney faculty member Louis Quindlen for coming up with the idea of hosting a clinic and using it to provide some community outreach; and to Laney Faculty Senate President Eleni Gastis for bringing the great idea to my attention. I asked Mark Johnson to move it forward and he reached out to the Alameda County Public Health Department PIO, who agreed it was a good idea and lined up Chatworth Pharmacy to provide the vaccination service."
Chancellor Jackson continued, "Amy Marshall, Director of Facilities and College Operations at Laney finalized the arrangements with Chatworth Pharmacy, and the clinic happened yesterday outdoors in front of the Laney Theater. Many thanks to Dean Mildred Lewis and faculty members including Louis Quindlen, Eleni Gastis, Mark Rauzon, Fred Bourgoin, Pinar Alscher, and Bill Trego for providing outreach services to answer questions participants had about Laney College. Also the Laney custodial crew all pitched in. I often say 'It takes a village' and this is an example of many people coming together to serve our community."
The second shot of the Moderna vaccine will be given on at the same location on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. People who have not yet been vaccinated can get their first shot on that day, too. People who received the shot on June 7 are already registered.
