Meet Anne Gormley, College of Alameda EOPS student, and future Doctor of Occupational Therapy! Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded program designed to provide support services to low-income and academically-disadvantaged students to become successful in college. EOPS is available to assist students with support services like early registration, academic counseling, career guidance, tutoring, book grants, transfer assistance, and tons more. The EOPS program welcomes all eligible students at all 4 of our campuses: Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College.

Below is a written transcript of the video:
"In December 2019, I had a serious accident. I landed on my head, and I have some memory loss, and I have some injuries that I'm trying to recover from. Without being able to work, finances are tight, so it's nice to have EOPS supplement books and other things. They've helped me get things that were special needs that I had, like noise-cancelling headphones for my music classes. They paid for most of my fees to join [Phi Theta Kappa], which is the Honor Society, which opens up the door for scholarships. Once a semester, it seems like we're getting a lunchbox. The lunchboxes are really nice, and it's fun to have something that has my school logo on it.
EOPS is there, and the people in the department are there. They ask how I'm doing, and I like the follow-up of the counselors. They check to make sure I'm doing okay in my classes and help connect me to resources, and just in many, many ways, they're playing a role in my success.
The degree I'm working for is Doctor of Occupational Therapy. I'm hoping to complete it at Samuel Merritt University. There are prerequisites that I can get at College of Alameda to do that. EOPS has been so helpful. I am truly grateful for the support that they've given me. A big thank you to everyone in that department."
Editor’s Note: 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of EOPS. Students and alumni from each of the Peralta Colleges shared stories with the Board of Trustees at their April 8, 2025 meeting, and we will be sharing student and alumni stories about their EOPS experiences throughout the rest of the Spring 2025 semester.
