Aug 11, 2025 3:48:41 PM / by Johnathan Freeman

Meet Antwa Rodriquez, who is reaching for the skies in aviation with the help of EOPS!

EOPS is available to assist students with support services like early registration, academic counseling, career guidance, tutoring, book grants, transfer assistance, and tons more. The EOPS program welcomes all eligible students at all 4 of our campuses: Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College.

Below is a written transcript of the video:

"Moving away from my hometown to a new city, it was a little hard. But, being part of EOPS, I had some mentors that guided me. My degree is aviation, and when it comes to aviation, it's a lot of money you have to invest. They gave me a CTE grant so I could cover most of the tools I needed to start off, because tools are not cheap. And [they] also helped buy textbooks and other school supplies like notebooks, pencils, and a coverall too, so it's been a big help during the classroom and outside the classroom. They also help to see other transfer counselors and other schools, too.

I received an airframe certificate. That allows me to work on a body for the plane. The degree I'm currently working on is the power plant. With these two degrees, I should be able to work in the aviation industry.  So as an example, I can go as an aircraft mechanic. Having an A&P can also lead you to working for BART, NASA, it just all really depends on where you want to work at, but there is job opportunities for sure. Check out EOPS, it can help you out a lot in life and help you succeed!"

Editor’s Note: 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of EOPS. Students and alumni from each of the Peralta Colleges shared stories with the Board of Trustees at their April 8, 2025 meeting, and we will be sharing student and alumni stories about their EOPS experiences throughout 2025.
