Bay Area Roots, Campus Reflections

The College of Alameda is proud to announce a collaboration with local Bay Area artist Jorge Bejarano, bringing his unique signature style of artwork to campus, enriching the cultural landscape for students, staff, and the wider community.

The artwork displayed at the student center highlights Alameda landscapes with art pieces of the High Street Bridge, USS Hornet, Alameda Point Jet, and CoA’s very own mascot, Cougar.

The collaboration with Bejarano began taking shape in 2023, sparked by an initiative from Associated Students of College of Alameda (ASCOA), who expressed interest in bringing meaningful, community-centered art to campus. The vision behind the initiative was to foster a sense of pride, belonging, and positive representation by highlighting art that reflects the diverse communities of the Bay Area.

The artwork was unveiled on Friday, August 22, as part of Welcome Week and the grand reopening of the Cougar Den. Reflecting on the installation, ASCOA Senator Rosa Perez shared:

“Finally, something local! It makes me proud to be from the place I live in. So many people hate on the Bay Area, so it’s like—finally someone appreciates us!”

Special thanks to ASCOA and the Office of Student Activities for their dedication and hard work in bringing this project to life.

Ribbon Cutting: Transportation Building Grand Opening

We’re thrilled to announce the grand opening of our brand-new Transportation Building – the T-Building!

This marks the culmination of years of planning, dedication, and hard work. The T-Building is a state-of-the-art facility that represents a significant leap forward for our students, programs, and the broader community.

This achievement would not have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of our faculty and staff in Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Technology, and Auto Body & Paint, along with the unwavering support of countless colleagues and partners:

Blair Norton, Ruffino Ramos, Richard Greenspan, Peter Ha, John Peterson, Mark Christensen, Wayne Fung, Dr. Eva Jennings, Dr. Nicole Porter, Bala Sampathraj, Saurav Pudsasini, Shawn Foster, Quaran Dixon, Shuntel Nathaniel, Selwyn Montgomery, Greg Nelson, Bc Hoff, Vitus Nnanna, Rodney Lampkin, Amy Marshall, Roebbelen Contracting, and Alten Construction.

A special shoutout goes to Candido Mejia and our phenomenal move team, who made the transition seamless.

We are also deeply grateful to our Board of Trustees, our taxpayers, and most importantly, our students. Your vision, commitment, and support made this milestone a reality.

Join us in celebrating this incredible achievement at our official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, September 30 at 1:00 PM. We encourage the entire college community to come out and join us in honoring this incredible advancement for College of Alameda!
