One Stop Shop Grand Opening

On October 2, 2024, CoA proudly hosted the grand opening for our One Stop Shop, which offers one place on campus where students can stop in and shop for:

• Grocery Basics, Fresh Produce, and occasionally even Eggs!
• Personal Care and Hygiene Items.
• Gently used Clothing, Shoes, and assorted random Knick-Knacks.

We served over 25 students in the first hour to learn more about the resources. We were eager to share how students can access the shop, and 16 students shopped for food items, 15 for personal care/hygiene supplies, and 10 picked out some new (to them) clothing. Our students appreciated the support, and we were honored to extend the support. In our first month of operation, One Stop Shop at CoA served 177 student visitors. During the month of October, 150 students shopped for food, 142 for personal care/hygiene items, and 37 shopped for clothing. CoA is making a difference in the lives of our students inside and outside of the classroom. Invested in serving the students that are not able to make it to our bi-monthly outdoor market, the One Stop Shop at CoA will be open every weekday (except Tasty Tuesday) from 10am – 4pm and is located on the first floor of the Student Center/F-Building in Room F122. Art Gallery Exhibit

Our gallery is offering a fantastic exhibition of paintings by our wonderful colleague Gabriel Navar. Professor Navar is an art educator at the College of Alameda and Ohlone College, he grew up in Oakland. At the College of Alameda Gabriel was inspired with classes in the art department before moving to Cal State East Bay and then San Jose State. Professor Navar’s exhibit went up on October 15, 2024, and will remain on display for the college community through Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Umoja Conference 2024

Serving disproportionately impacted populations is a central focus at CoA. Celebrating culture and identity is essential to the educational journey of BIPOC communities. Representation and exposure allow our students to see their potential and the possibilities of achieving their educational aspirations. This year CoA was able to send ten students participating in the Umoja program and five employees to the annual conference in Los Angeles. The students had a meaningful experience and gained valuable knowledge from practitioners across the State invested in the success of students of African descent. One of our students decided to document the trip and we thank Antwa for capturing experiences from a student’s perspective.
