On Friday, November 1, Chancellor Tammeil Gilkerson was the plenary speaker for the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) 50th Anniversary annual conference "LEADING LIKE A WOMAN, 50 YEARS STRONG". The title of her speech was “Finding Abundance: Waging Love on the Journey to Liberation.”
"I’ve been consciously trying to center my approach to our shared goals in a more generative and hope-filled framework," reflects Chancellor Gilkerson. "And the liberatory education I’m so passionate about for our students is also an important reminder and touchstone for me as an educator."
She shared how bell hook’s seminal Teaching to Transgress is an essential foundation for the transformation that can happen in our classrooms and services when we center love and break down barriers that allow us the space to think critically and explore.
