Campus Public Safety Announcements and Safety Tips

We want to provide useful information about our Campus Public Safety department and share safety tips for keeping us and our campuses safe.

Rave Campus Safety Alerts
At their January 23rd meeting, the Board of Trustees approved Peralta's participation in the State of California’s Next Generation 9-1-1 Alert & Warning System, which uses Rave Mobile Safety technology for campus safety-related alerts only.  Peralta CCD representatives from IT, Campus Public Safety, and Marketing, Communication & Public Relations (MCPR) have kicked off the project for using the Rave Mobile Safety platform.  Soon, we'll be able to leverage the Rave Mobile Safety platform for emergency communications including email, SMS/text messages, and phone calls. We will let you know when the system is ready for testing. We'll also be providing more information about the system itself as we get closer to the launch.

Narcan Available at the Campus Public Safety Office
Beginning in 2023, PCCD has made Naloxone available for emergency situations via Marina Security guards patrolling campuses. Naloxone, better known by the brand name Narcan, is a drug that helps treat people suffering from a narcotic overdose in an emergency situation.  Narcan is part of the first aid kits in the red bags that all Marina Security supervisors carry. Single doses of Narcan are now available to students upon request at the Campus Public Safety office at 333 East 8th Street in Oakland at the District headquarters. Shortly, Narcan will also be available at the Laney College Wellness Center.

Campus Public Safety Information
  • In the event of an emergency, please call 911.  An emergency is defined as a situation that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property, or environment that requires urgent intervention and immediate action.
  • For Campus Public Safety services, please call (510) 466-7236. Use this number in emergency situations after you've called 911, and for all non-emergency situations like reporting suspicious activity, trespassing, vandalism, theft, or other crimes, and also for service including a security guard escort to/from the parking areas to campus. We want you to always feel safe on campus. If you don't feel safe, call us at (510) 466-7236.
  • At Berkeley City College, dial x 2975 from any campus phone to reach Campus Public Safety / Marina Security. If you are using an outside phone, dial (510) 981-2975 to reach the BCC security desk.
Safety Tips:
  • Never leave valuables inside your car, which are visible from outside of your vehicle.
  • Lock your car door after entering or leaving your vehicle.
  • When returning to your vehicle, look around and look inside your car to ensure entry is safe.
  • Have your keys in your hand to speed your entry.
  • Stay on frequently used paths to and from the parking areas.
  • If walking alone, avoid distractions like headphones or excessive phone use and carry a whistle or personal alarm. We recommend using the “Buddy System” or requesting a security guard escort by calling (510) 466-7236.
  • Keep your mobile phone well charged.
  • Do not leave purses, wallets, tote bags, books, backpacks, etc. unattended, even momentarily.
  • Lock your bicycle to the bike rack and loop chain/cable through the frame, tires, and rack.
  • When working after hours, notify Campus Public Safety of your location by calling (510) 466-7236.
