If you haven’t visited the June Steingart Art Gallery at Laney College recently, go now! The current exhibit, “Spring 2024 Art Department Faculty Show” features dozens of artworks created by Laney College faculty members. The show ends after March 7th so do not delay.
An opening reception for the show was held on February 14th and the well-attended gathering was full of Valentine’s Day love for art and the artists. Department Chair Mary Catherine (MC) Bassett welcomed attendees with a short, heartfelt message of gratitude. MC is full-time faculty in the Art Department at Laney College and a practicing artist working primarily in ceramic and glass. MC received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis in Fiber and Material Studies and earned her MFA in 2012 from the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Glass Sculpture.
The show was organized by new June Steingart Art Gallery Director and Laney College faculty member Susanna Stromberg. Susanna is a photographer, writer, and communications strategist with a background in professional audio, international conferences, and visual arts programs. While excited about this event as her first show, she is already looking forward to the next show, featuring student work. The “2024 Juried Student Exhibition” program is scheduled to open on May 1, 2024.
