Abdul Pridgen to Join PCCD as Interim Executive Director of Public Safety and Security

Dear Peralta Community,

As I shared back in April, we’ve initiated a broader exploration into strategies and options that will support our long-term strategic vision for public safety.  Given prominent concerns around safety and security in my districtwide listening sessions and the foundational leadership of the Holistic Safety and Wellness Committee, we are poised to articulate a transformative and holistic plan for safety and security that centers our District’s mission and vision, and the Board’s June 2021 Resolution Renewing Support for the Holistic Safety and Wellness of District Students.

I am committed to improving communication, support, and services to Peralta’s students, campuses, and community. Thank you to everyone who participated in the safety and security survey we launched this spring. The results and recommendations from our partners will be shared in August.

Additionally, I’m pleased to report that the screening committee sent me three outstanding candidates for the Interim Executive Director of Public Safety and Security. After final interviews, reference checks, and careful consideration, I’m excited to announce the selection of Mr. Abdul Pridgen, pending approval by the Board of Trustees.

Adbul Pridgen Headshot
With nearly 32 years of comprehensive experience in law enforcement, including progressive leadership roles in Fort Worth, TX, Seaside, CA, and San Leandro, CA, Abdul brings a wealth of expertise in community engagement and proactive public safety strategies. Throughout his distinguished career, Abdul has prioritized building trust and fostering positive relationships with historically underserved and marginalized communities. Notable achievements include the creation of the Seaside Nutrition, Academic & Athletics for Cops & Kids (SNAACK) Van, which delivered healthy snacks, school supplies, and sports equipment to community youth, and the Fort Worth Police Department Multicultural Committee, where diverse community stakeholders helped craft a culture-focused police academy curriculum.

These initiatives reflect Abdul's deep commitment to integrating community voices into public safety efforts and developing inclusive, participatory approaches to public safety. Moreover, his work bringing the National Network for Safe Communities and the Drug Market Intervention (DMI) in Fort Worth demonstrated a trilateral approach, where community, social services, and law enforcement collaborated to provide dignified alternatives for those involved in drug activities.

With a reputation as an ethical, authentic, and accountable leader, Abdul is known for driving meaningful, enduring change and advancing a collective, community-driven public safety model. I’m confident his leadership will help us realize our vision of fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment throughout our district community.

Once again, I am so deeply grateful for our community.  Thank you for your partnership, patience, and collective belief in what we are working to accomplish together.

With gratitude and hope,
Tammeil
