Zoom/Canvas Integration Update – August 15, 2022

Welcome back to the faculty who were on break this summer! We were recently notified by the state Chancellor’s Office that access to Zoom via CCCConfer will be changing. On the evening of August 15, 2022, the CCC ConferZoom application will be replaced by a new and improved application called CCC Tech Connect Zoom. 
What is happening? 
Tech Connect (previously known as ConferZoom) will be updating our Zoom accounts on the evening of August 15th. The change affects how Zoom is integrated into Canvas. The great news is that Faculty Zoom accounts will become fully integrated with Canvas. 
 
When is it happening? 
August 15, 2022 – after 10 p.m. 
 
Who is affected? 
All Zoom users, particularly faculty members teaching online synchronous classes for Fall 2022. 
 
Faculty members will see improved integration with Canvas. We will send additional information to Faculty shortly. 
 
Non-faculty Zoom users including classified professionals and administrators will not see any changes in functionality.

What else do I need to know? 

  1. Access to Zoom is the same: go to  https://zoom.us/ and enter your username and password.  

  2. Attendance Reports will NOT be migrated. The attendance reports are the only thing that will not follow you in the transition. All of the recordings using the Zoom application will transfer over. If you use the attendance reports, please be sure to download them prior to August 14th. 

  3. If you are currently using the ConferZoom application linked in the course navigation of your Canvas Courses, please do NOT create or schedule any Zoom meetings until after the migration, August 15-16, 2022. The ConferZoom integration will be replaced by a new and improved application called Tech Connect Zoom. 

  4. Foothill-DeAnza has already gone through the migration and CCC TechConnect suggested we share their Canvas documentation on how to use TechConnect Zoom: https://foothillcollege.instructure.com/courses/11969

Faculty-Specific

If you are using ConferZoom for your synchronous classes, please read this update carefully. Starting at 10 pm on August 15, the ConferZoom tool in Canvas will be updated. The new interface of ConferZoom, calledTechConnect Zoom, will be quite similar to the previous tool, so you can see almost all functions that you are familiar with.  
 
Important: Please do not create ConferZoom links for your classes before August 16 since all previously created ConferZoom will be deleted with the new update on August 15.  This change will not affect faculty who are using a personal or direct link created in their Zoom account (not on Canvas). This update is only for faculty who are using the ConferZoom feature integrated into Canvas.
