BCC:  Helping Our Community Through the Holidays

Just before the holiday break, Berkeley City College collaborated with the Berkeley Food Network in providing food to students for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We gave away free frozen chickens, pumpkin puree, beans, stuffing, canned fruit, rice, and other goodies! Many of the students who came to pick up food expressed their gratitude for helping them have a meal during the November holiday break. What a wonderful way to put a smile on someone’s face!

Davon is a mother of four children and is studying to become a nurse. Her inspirational story and strong application helped her to win the award at a statewide level on February 25thIn March of 2021, Davon was invited by the CalWORKs Associate Board to perform as the keynote speaker on the student panel.

Berkeley City College Enrollment Overview

BCC is offering 418 sections in fall 2021. As of today, 6,098 students have enrolled in 11,268 classes, generating a total of 1,311 FTES (1,182 resident and 139 non-resident FTES). The resident FTES represents 79% of BCC’s fall 2021 FTES target of 1,489. The average productivity rate is 13 (our goal is 17.5).

Berkeley City College Receives $2.8 Million CIRM Grant

On July 20th, the governing Board of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) voted to award $51.08 million to fifteen community colleges and universities across California, including Berkeley City College (BCC), to fund programs that will help train the next generation of stem cell researchers. As part of the CIRM Bridges to Stem Cell Research and Therapy program award, BCC will receive $2,806,896 over five years.

On July 27, Berkeley City College President Dr. Angélica Garcia informed the Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees about the College’s award and its impact on student success, equity, and workforce development. This is the kind of partnership and collaboration between higher education, science, and industry partners that serves local communities.
